On our way

 What are we missing?

Should we have brought better shoes?

Should we have brought a computer?

Will the carseat ever be used?

Should we have packed more clothes? Less?

Should we have packed sheet pouches and a sleeping bag?  Warmer jackets?

Who forgot their toothbrush?

I emailed the Dragon Guest House and asked if they had two rooms.  They said yes!  And they are looking forward to meeting us.  I did this yesterday.   They are$13 per room and in the Tibetan area of Kathmandu.  We will take a bus to the city.  I love staying out of the tourist areas. Now for an 8 hour 30 min flight with 5 hours in Munich.  Then a 3 5 hour flight with 2 hours in Istanbul, and then a 6 hour flight to Kat.  Unfortunately its $50-150 per seat to get seat assignments on Turkish Airlines which is what we are flying for leg 2 and 3.  It will cut into our Munich city time.  Ah well.  Such is the new normal.

We are in good spirits and ready for a huge 25 hour travel experience!

First Post - Nepal and India

The Robbins are headed to Nepal and Northern India for a month. We fly into Kathmandu. We'll visit Kathmandu Valley, trek and see a bunch of tall mountains including Everest, monkeys/rhinos/elephants in Chitwan Nat'l Park, Darmashala home of the Dalai Lama, Dehli, the Taj Mahal, and my favorite city Varanasi and other places we havent thought of yet. Right now we're working on basics. Last week it was finding the Japanese Encephalitis shot ($330 in Us, $185 in Canada, $36 in Kathmandu -- 2 per person). This week its tracking down paper Indian Visas because e-visas can only be used by air and sea. Ten hours on the visa website isn't cool man. And Eric has been trying to get the time off work. At one point he was meeting us in transit, but its looking more promising today.

As far as accommodation and travel is concerned, we have plane tickets (bought using miles) ... that's it. Meeting people and experiencing the culture are high on the travel hopes, so rolling with the day usually is the best bet and fellow travelers usually have the best tips.

Packing ... its 3 pants and 3 shirts (3 is generous in my book ... id say 2) for everyone and 10 pairs of underwear. Mainly the packs are filled with deet, suntan lotion, hats, covid vaccine proof, imodium, rehydration salts, antibiotics, protein bars, travel books, ponchos, travel plugs, binoculars, and maybe some cool bandanas to trade with locals ... and all the stuff im going to think of soon. We can buy stuff there. Hopefully we'll post along the way too.

Traveling again and with my kids is so exciting! But the lead up to it can be hairy.
